Miscellaneous papers of and about Dr. William Beaumont, famous for his experiments on digestion while stationed at Prairie du Chien, Wis. On microfilm are War Dept. letters written by and about Dr. Beaumont concerning his appointment as surgeon in the United States Army and the whereabouts of his brother John, and some reports to the Adjutant General concerning Alexis St. Martin, the subject of Beaumont's experiments. In paper form is an 1832 contract between St. Martin and Beaumont; his 1828 appointment as a U.S. Army surgeon; papers concerning his landholdings in Wisconsin including correspondence with Hercules Dousman and his son I. G. Beaumont; a genealogical chart compiled by Arnot S. Luckhardt, Chicago, Ill., showing Beaumont's ancestors and descendants; and other papers about him and his experiments.
